چکیده

This paper introduces a state-of-art on an ultra-wideband (UWB) technology in intelligent transport systems (ITS). To examine the detection performance of a UWB short-range radar for vehicular applications, we developed a 26-GHz band short-range UWB radar system with an embedded compact MMIC-based RF module. In this paper, we briefly comment on the current regulatory environment for UWB radar systems by outlining the structure of an international organization involved in examining the regulatory status of these systems. We then describe the principles of detection and system design for impulse radar, the radar system that we developed, and a MMIC-based RF module as well as the performance of these devices. We measured their performance in a series of laboratory experiments and also measured UWB radar cross sections of an automobile. The results of our experiments suggest that our radar system is capable of detecting targets with a range resolution of around 9 cm. key words: impulse radar, ultra wideband, UWB, vehicular, system, laboratory experiment, intelligent transport system, ITS

Design of an Ultra-Wideband Ground-Penetrating Radar System Using Impulse Radiating Antennas

At TNO-FEL in The Hague, Netherlands, one of the research programs is to explore the use of ultra-wideband (UWB) electromagnetic fields in a bi-static ground-penetrating radar (GPR) system for the detection, location and identification of buried items of unexploded ordnance (e.g. land mines). In the present paper we describe the current status of the development of this system. The UWB ground-p...

Qq-5 Generation of Highly Tunable Microwave Radiation via a Relativistic Ionization Front

This paper reports the experimental demonstration of frequency upshifting of microwave radiation by a relativistic ionization front. Source radiation at 34.8 GHz has been upshifted to greater than 116 GHz in a continuously tunable fashion. It is a new technique for generating high-power, tunable radiation in short pulses, and has potential applications in plasma diagnostics, time-resolved micro...
